North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

This is my favourite cover.
ARTICLE WITH SPOILERS

1855 was a very difficult year, I’m talking about women, but even when women had tough times, there are, always, brave women emerging everywhere. Elizabeth Gaskell was one of these women I’m talking about. Her main female character is a brave woman but Mrs. Thornton, John’s mother is braver. There are too many things to talk in this wonderful story based on the revolution industrial in England and with a love story simmering among their pages. (The better ones)

Good morning and welcome one more time here, I hope you enjoy this article and later write down your opinion. I'm in mood "period-drama" and I'm watching my miniseries from BBC. I thought it will be a good idea let here my feelings. Do you want to join me? Let's hit it!

After the people persuade me to watch this series I took my opportunity one day, sat down myself on the sofa and started to watching it. After the first episode, I wanted to give it up because I'm very sensitive and is a hard work for me watch scenes with too much misery and children crying, but something pushed me up and I went on with the rest.

Plot:

When her father leaves the Church in a crisis of conscience, Margaret Hale is uprooted from her comfortable home in Hampshire to move with her family to the north of England. Initially repulsed by the ugliness of her new surroundings in the industrial town of Milton, Margaret becomes aware of the poverty and suffering of the local mill workers and develops a passionate sense of social justice. This is intensified by her tempestuous relationship with the mill-owner and self-made man, John Thornton, as their fierce opposition over his treatment of his employees masks a deeper attraction.

Margaret Hale is a sweet and nice woman belongs to Helstone, south of England, but when her father has problems with his believings, make his mind up and take his family at Milton, north of England and in there they settle down. Helstone is a peaceful place with flowers, clear sky, and friendly people. Milton is dirty, its sky is always gray, its ways are gray, the people are gray and their lungs are gray too because the rubbish they breathing.

In Milton is starting the industrial revolution and all people are excited, nervous, and exhausted and Margaret meets Nicolas Higgins, the head leader that wants for himself and for his fellas a better work and better conditions because the misery is so much big, the family are numerous and children crying for food, daughter dying with ill lungs and the people don't find support in the work. But Margaret meets Mr. Thorton too, but this man is rude with his workers, is grave, and always frowning. Their first meeting is wrong, they have prejudice each other, and they have misunderstandings. This is a huge problem because Mr. Thorton is a pupil from Mr. Hale and that means they are going to see each other often.
But under the shadow of his frown, dark, brow, there are hidden a beautiful smile.

Milton will steal from Margaret to many things and give her tears and concerns, thus Margaret will become sterner with everything around her and always find support in Mr. Bell. Such a good man, he made me smile.

I read the book, as well and I have to say is better than this series. I loved it and is one of my favorites books.

Cranford [Mini-Serie]

Hello, everybody. How are all of you? I’ve finished my lunch time and I was wondering about my new article. Nothing came up my mind y and I was beginning to feel bored and sad when a little picture crossed my thoughts

It’s 1842 in Cranford. It’s a small village and the modernity is about to come on it. Over there, inside that’s beautiful house are living elegant olds woman. They are adorable (someone more adorable than others) The most adorable old women is Miss Matty. What a lovely woman. She is, all she, kind, happy, pay attention at her friends and she has a big-hearted into her chest. She’ll earn our tears with love into her smooth hands. She is Judy Dench and she is perfect for this character. She is awesome because you can see her like an authoritarian woman very severe and angry and then, here, she is sugar and cream.
Cranford is a small village and always take place a lot of events, all of them wrapped with humor. You’ll laugh with those refined old women and their happening. They have a strong relationship and when one of them has a kind of emergency, all of they go to help. Yes, all of they like a tribe.  It’s so funny why no one is out.
Cranford is so small and when someone tries to break one rule for the society, there are people very angry. These old women are upset when someone tries to change something into their small place. They have habits with roots for a lot of years ago and they don’t want any change in their lives. The world moves on but our old women stay unbroken into their small village.

The main topic about Cranford is friendship, a strong friendship among these women. They are unmarried and widows. The love is in the air. Here exist fraternal love and love passionate. They have a grand needed to show us their lives; their days and the way how they are telling us: “We won’t change our present. It’s never and ever.” But the future it’s coming and we’ll feel their worries and sadness. They will share with you all their feelings and we will love them because they are fantastic actresses.

I read this book as well and I haven’t words. It’s the same love, the same humor. Of course, the book is more extensive and narrates us more stories and you can have more feelings and overall, you will know the complete story. When I always say: First, read the book.

I love these landscapes from old times. I love BBC and their series about old times. I’m a big fan. Maybe someday I write another series from BBC.

Good day!
